About a year and a half ago, one of my students said to me: “I want to take the grade 8 ABRSM exam.”

As soon as she said that, I started to panic inside. Previously, I've had students take the lower grades (1, 2, and 3) and do well, but had never helped a student achieve a grade 8, which is the highest level of the exam. I wasn’t sure if either one of us could do it.

I told her that we could give it our best shot, but I wasn’t 100% confident we would be able to achieve this lofty goal. She understood and agreed that we would just try our best and see what happens.

For the next year and half, Emma worked incredibly hard. She had many ups and downs in her life, but she stayed dedicated and committed to the goal. She practiced more than she ever had, made absolutely astonishing progress, and never complained once.

On December 2, she took her exam, and she emailed me the results a few days later. I was SO scared to open that email, but once I did, I saw the words as clear as day: PASS.

I couldn’t believe it. WE DID IT! I was walking on air for the rest of the day. I was so incredibly proud of her.

Oh, I forgot to mention. This student lives in Scotland, and I live in the US. She passed her grade 8 exam without a single in person lesson.

With this accomplishment, I now have full confidence that I can help anyone pass any level of the ABRSM exam and that this can be done completely virtually.
