Angel of Music from The Phantom of the Opera is a haunting and lyrical duet between Christine Daaé and her confidante, Meg Giry, with interjections from the mysterious Phantom. The song reveals Christine’s belief that her late father sent her a divine "Angel of Music" to guide her singing, a belief the Phantom exploits as he secretly mentors her. The piece blends wonder, devotion, and an undercurrent of tension, setting the stage for the Phantom’s enigmatic influence and the unfolding drama in the story.
I was in 6th grade when I watched the Phantom of the Opera movie for the very first time. I was at a huge sleepover with a bunch of my friends, and we couldn't stop belting the lyrics for days and weeks afterwards. There are so many iconic songs, it's hard to choose a favorite! I also saw the Broadway musical which blew my mind when it had actual fire in it!
This piece is pretty beginner friendly; the hardest thing is the time signature and rhythm. Angel of Music is in 6/8, which means there are 6 eighth notes per measure. Instead of counting quarter notes, count eighth notes in this piece.
