"Winter Wonderland" is a joyful holiday song that captures the magic and beauty of a snowy winter scene. The lyrics describe a snowy landscape where people enjoy playful outdoor activities like building a snowman and going for walks in the fresh snow. The song also includes a romantic element, with the snow-covered world creating a cozy, festive atmosphere for love. Written in 1934, it has become a holiday classic that celebrates the wonder of winter and the fun of enjoying it with someone special.
I'm from Texas, which is in the southern part of the US, where it rarely gets cold or snows! I think that it's snowed in Houston (my hometown) just 3 or 4 times in my lifetime. Needless to say, this is not the first tune that pops into my mind as a quintessential Christmas song, but I still enjoy it nonetheless. And hey, maybe it will snow on Christmas in Texas one day!
This is a violin-beginner-friendly version of the tune, as there is no shifting involved. It's in the key of C Major, so there are no sharps or flats, and in 4/4 time, so there are 4 beats per measure. The trickiest thing about this piece is the rhythm. At the beginning, you'll notice that it indicates that the eighth notes should be "swung" ie they should be played unevenly, with the first note longer than the second.
If you know how this song sounds, you'll be able to play this rhythm. Download the free sheet music and watch the tutorial below!
